Deserted

The empty street, it stretches away from me,
Across the quiet town, all shops are shuttered.
I tried to find some people, but none I see,
Laid out before me stands a world deserted.

Empty classrooms and halls, they look forlorn,
Schools are closed, week after week.
Away from playgrounds, children have all gone,
They can't return to play their hide-and-seek.

Quiet neighbourhoods with vehicles standing still,
My neighbours are indoors, quietly within.
Day after day, I have much time to fill,
The world's deserted,
It's no longer what it has been.
