On new moon day, the Sliver of Moon
high above us is found.
Unseen, for the blinding glare of noon,
appearing briefly at sundown.
Over the week, the Crescent Moon casts,
its gleam in the sky each night.
Then on the eighth, at time of dusk,
Waxing Quarter takes sight.
The week follows, Waxing Gibbous grows,
emerging later each night.
When fifteenth arrives, its midnight shows
a Full Moon round and bright.
The glory of the Moon begins to fade,
as Waning Gibbous recedes
'Til twenty-second, when morning is made,
a Waning Quarter we meet.
The days after, poor Moon withdraws
from showing her face to Earth
She makes her exit thru' Heaven's door
On twenty-ninth or thirtieth.
