In the beginning they said,
You may go out to buy food
Because it is essential,
It's needed for your good.
Then later on, they said,
Six miles from home you shan't exceed,
Even if it's for essentials,
Even for food you badly need.
After that, they said,
You shall not, before eight in the morning,
Go out to buy your food essential,
Nor do that after eight in the evening,
Now, they say,
You may go out to the barber,
To get a hair-cut non-essential,
Tho' you may fall sick gravely later.
It's all because
They said . . .
