The Song Bird

The song bird
sings without words
a song without lyrics
melody without a score

The bird's song
a human may not sing
a musician may not replicate
a writer may not compose

The bird sings
heartily without hesitation
joyfully without reward
sweetly without applause

The singing bird
is sadly confined to a cage
by inhumane humans
who are thrilled by its singing
who reward sweetness with sorrow
who inflict cruelty in return for joy.

The bird sings.

Crouching tiger, Hidden dragon

Crouching tiger, hidden dragon.
- a poem about reports in the news that the Wuhan Coronavirus can be spread by people with no visible symptoms

Whether you're on a crowded train
Or at a bus stop sheltered from the rain,
Surrounded by people you do not know,
A gnawing feeling starts to grow.

Could the well-dressed passenger
Seated beside you be the danger?
Or could the hungry, homeless beggar
Standing nearby, make worries even bigger?

Alas, there's no answer to this nagging question,
Of how you can stay safe in this dire situation.
For you will by no means be able to tell
The inwardly sick from the outwardly well.
